107 Heat Index ....

I saw a friend's post yesterday that said it was 98 degrees in Hell, Michigan ..... it's over a 100 here so we are officially "Hotter than Hell" ..... literally. :o)

Not much happens around here when it's over 100. I went out yesterday to do chores and broke out in a full sweat standing still watering the donkeys. Ducky appears to still be doing ok. So far nobody has gone down in the heat. They say this is going to be the worst day but it'll be the last day of this run then it should break. I just heard we might get rain this afternoon. I'm sure everybody outside will appreciate that.

We braved the heat on Wednesday and went to the Humboldt 4th of July Parade. I went out early and washed Gato, hooked up the truck and trailer, loaded ..... and then started to not feel very well. I came in to get cooled off a little before heading out to do the other two horses. Dannielle (our friend who was riding with us in the parade) got there a little before Krystle. Once Krystle got there we all headed out again to get the last two washed up. I think once you get overheated, it's a lot easier to get overwhelmed by it again. It wasn't long before I wasn't feeling well again but luckily the girls were there to take over. We got them done and headed inside in the cool air to get ready.

It's almost second nature now getting all jazzed up for parades. I usually have all the outfits hanging in the front room side by side for all the riders (kinda like the old days with the haunted house .... I'd have all the outfits for the main characters all lined up.... we'd outfit the main room and then move onto the 'extras' :o) Once the eyelashes and makeup are on, the outfits slip on, then the hair, then we move onto the back room to 'bling' up, then the last thing we do before we walk out the door is spray each other with glitter. It's almost like an automated line now ..... boom, boom, boom ..... we're READY! Out the door .....

We're pretty good at slamming everything together once we get where we're going, too. Everybody has a job ......even the horses know what's happening since they've done it enough times. It's neat to watch the 'process' as we quickly get everything lined up to go .... truck, horses, ourselves ....... we generally draw a crowd when we're getting ready. :o) The Humboldt Parade wasn't any different. Luckily, our friend Susan went early and found us a PERFECT parking spot to pull in and get ready right around the corner from where we were parked. I finally got to meet Jim Kellner who I'd been talking to a bunch a couple weeks ago. He has a beautiful team of horses. He had two carriages there. Didn't do much yesterday. Actually didn't leave the farm. Dannielle asked me how I can stand being all alone out here and not talk to anyone. I told her I'm used to it. .....but I guess before I did have one person to talk to ....Russ. He would come home at night and that was good enough for me. I could go a couple weeks at a time without leaving here. It seemed like we were always out and about at a horse show or taking mares somewhere or out visiting other horse friends on the weekends, so I was content staying here during the week and taking care of things here. It did get hard during the winter months when everything slows down with shows and breeding ...I think the longest I went without leaving the farm was 2 weeks because i get my nails done every two weeks. If we didn't go somewhere on the weekend ...... I know I'd get out to go do that. :o)

It seems different now, though. I was never sad being out here alone before. I guess because I never felt like I was really alone. Now I'm sad. My friend had a baby yesterday so I'm going out this morning to go see them. Krystle is going with me. Not much else planned. The big Buckeye Parade is Saturday but I'm not sure if we're going. I'm still not feeling too well with all this heat. I know it's supposed to be cooler ....... but I think we might pass. I know I'll wish I didn't when Sunday comes and I have no new pictures to post, but I guess I'll have to find something else to shoot. :o)
